Peter started his career in the London market in 1994, as an Underwriting Assistant with Terra Nova on the Direct & Facultative Worldwide account. In 1995 he was promoted to Direct & Facultative underwriter with responsibility for writing property, casualty and private passenger auto business globally. In 1997 he moved to the casualty and specialty risks underwriting team and promoted to Programme Manager on a worldwide programme underwriting account. Over the course of 1999 Peter took a greater responsibility within the Casualty & Speciality Risks team finally taking full responsibility for the Financial and Speciality Liability portfolios. This portfolio includes reinsurance and reinsurance of credit, surety and political risk business. The Speciality Liability portfolio is made up of a variety of niche products notably programs tailored to the individual needs of extreme sports enthusiasts.

During the acquisition of Terra Nova by Markel in 2000, Peter was quickly promoted to the principal underwriter of these two accounts. At this time these two classes were in an account of approximately $3 million of premium income. Peter’s responsibility was to develop these two areas into two distinct major risk classes of approximately $15 million gross written premium which he achieved within two years of taking on the role.

Peter has been employed in a senior class underwriter position, managing two separate portfolios of speciality liability and financial business writing both insurance and reinsurance on anything from trade related political risks perils in Chile to Professional Kart Circuit Operators in the Kent countryside. These two portfolios have represented a combined written premium of over $20 million with considerable scope for controlled profitable growth.

Peter’s underwriting discipline allows him to achieve and often exceed his underwriting goals.



Martin has been involved with the London Insurance market for over thirty years. He started work with various positions in insurance underwriting and broking companies gaining experience in the insurance market, moving in 1976 to the Merrett Group in various underwriting roles culminating in being appointed the Managing Director of Anton and Pulbrook Managing Agencies in 1989/90.

In June 1992 Martin joined Stewart Syndicates Limited as Managing Director and was appointed Chief Executive of Stewart Underwriting plc, being the holding company.

He established Farrant Insurance Services Limited in 1996 and was appointed Chairman. The company provided support services to the Lloyd’s community and was successful in creating a banking product for Syndicates at Lloyd’s to assist with the newly imposed US Trust Fund requirements. The company was acquired by Hampden Plc in January 1998 and Martin was appointed a director of Hampden Plc, and various Hampden subsidiaries.

During 1998, he designed the structure, also writing the relevant strategic and business plans, creating and managing a project group whose objectives were to establish a new managing agency at Lloyd's being Heritage Underwriting Agency Plc. Which, upon its successful launch, he was appointed Managing Director. In 2003, Martin took a non-executive role within Heritage, in order to concentrate on various diverse business interests.



Richard has been involved in the London Insurance Market for over 18 years. He is one of the founding shareholders of Spectrum Syndicate Management and was appointed Chief Executive Officer at its formation in April 2002. Spectrum group has built £5m net assets over that period. Richard is also Chief Executive Officer of Aviation& General Insurance company (AGIC). As well as running a major Lloyd’s run-off, for which Richard is the Lloyd’s appointed run-off manager, Spectrum has successfully executed a solvent scheme of arrangement for AGIC as an investor and manager as well as piloting the first part VII transfer at Lloyds. Richard is a regular contributor to the insurance press and speaks at conferences on London Market issues.

Prior to Spectrum and its predecessor company Richard worked at Lloyd’s for 12 years. During his time with Lloyd’s Richard held a number of positions including responsibility for the majority of regulatory operations as a General Manager, and in the early part of his career as Executive Assistant to Lloyd’s Director of Finance. Prior to Lloyd’s, Richard spent 4 years with the Audit Commission and, after University, 5 years in the Home Civil Service.



Mike has worked in the Lloyd’s Insurance Market for over 17 years. He is one of the founding shareholders of Spectrum Syndicate Management, for whom he acted as Finance Director at its formation in April 2002. He was appointed Chief Operating Officer in February 2004. As well as running a major Lloyd’s run-off, Mike is heavily involved in piloting the first Part IV transfer at Lloyd’s. Mike is also a member of the LMA Run-Off Group.

Prior to joining Spectrum and it’s predecessor company, Mike spent 7 years as the Finance Director at Whittington Syndicate Management Limited responsible for syndicate accounting and reporting for up to 100 syndicates in run-off and 2 live syndicates. He also held the position of Compliance Officer for the Lloyd’s managing agency arm until December 1997. Mike started his accounting career with Touche Ross and was involved in insurance business from 1980. Having reached a senior management position in Touche Ross Mike joined the Merrett Group in 1987 where he held various positions including Director of Group Services, Company Secretary and Compliance Officer.



Kim has worked in the Lloyd’s Market for 22 years. She was appointed Compliance Director of Spectrum Syndicate Management Limited at its formation in April 2002 having previously held the same position with Crowe Syndicate Management Limited since September 1999. Prior to joining Crowe Kim worked for the Corporation of Lloyd’s for 17 years, 8 of which were in the Members’ Services Unit looking after the administration of Names’ affairs and 9 of which were in the Regulatory Division with responsibility for reviewing Lloyd’s underwriting agents, syndicates and brokers. On leaving the Corporation in August 1999 Kim held the position of Assistant Manager, Monitoring Department and was responsible for managing 25 staff carrying out market supervision on the various Lloyd’s agents and syndicates.



Stavros was appointed Chief Actuary of Spectrum Syndicate Management Limited in April 2002 having previously been an actuarial analyst within the Actuarial Department of Crowe Syndicate Management Limited since April 2001.

After completing an MSc in actuarial science at Heriot-Watt University, Stavros joined Tillinghast-Towers Perrin’s General Insurance Division in September 1997 as an actuarial trainee. There he was involved in a variety of projects such as mergers and acquisitions, reserve reviews and valuations for London Market & European companies & Lloyd’s syndicates, across a variety of classes of business.

In July 2000 Stavros joined Allianz Cornhill as a team leader for the London Market Division.

Stavros holds a B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Athens.



David joined as Group Finance Manager in June 2000. Prior to that he had worked for over twenty years as a Senior Manager in the Financial Services division at Ernst & Young. During this period he specialised in services to the firm’s clients in the insurance industry, both syndicate, corporate names, managing agents and broking clients within the Lloyd’s market and also both life and non-life companies. These services included statutory audits and also advising on acquisitions, disposals and reconstructions and included providing expert witness evidence in reinsurance disputes.
